Although, at first glance, this seems to a Monarch, it is actually a Queen butterfly. Queens and Monarchs are both milkweed butterflies that are orange with black and white markings. The Queen tends to be a darker orange and has a more solid appearance compared to the stained-glass look of the Monarch. The Queen also behaves differently. A Monarch has slow wing-beats that give a dignified air. A Queen has faster wing-beats with more fluttering and bouncing. Monarchs tend to cluster while Queens do not.
