Here’s our frequent summer visitor, the monarch. He looks great with the Zinnias. What he depends on in the summer is the milkweed plant. The larvae will not eat any other plant. It’s been a challenge because there have been fewer acres of milkweed available the last few years.
North American monarchs are the only ones that migrate. They fly 3,000 miles so they can spend the winter in Mexico where they are safe from cold weather. Currently, they are facing loss of habitat from several natural disasters in Mexico.
